TYPHOON PEPENG

October 8, 2009, Typhoon Ondoy left the vicinity of Central Luzon which caused floods and took away lives. On the same day Typhoon Pepeng landed in the Philippines, particularly in Northern Luzon. With its heavy and continous rainfall for how many days caused floods and landslides. It took away lives and properties of many. Its explanation was soil was saturated with water that causes the loosening of soil which causes slides.

The road before the typhoon

Mud... the kids first step on the mud...
While crossing on the mud with baggage of things, a good samaritan, came along to help us carry our baggage down the mountain until we reach the highway.

There used to be riprap here supporting the Lamtang Elementary School,
it just happened overnight. People had a hard time opening just one side of the road to have access to the city.

Part of the riprap that fell from Lamtang Elementary School that
collapsed during the typhoonBelow Lamtang Elementary SchoolStill below Lamtang Elementary School

The way going out of our barangay...we thought that this was the only slide, but we we're wrong as we go further...there were more and more slides...
Bayanihan is still alive during this time. People from our barangay especially men helped each other to clear the road. Everybody carrying their shovels on their back just like the seven dwarfs.

A kind hearted man, used his small loader to help and another samaritan shared his gasoline for the loader

More slides as we go further down the highway

we crossed this path just to reach the highway...
with the kids in our hands and some important baggages

The creek used to be deep but after the typhoon. It washed away parts of the fields

This used to be a free flowing creek but its now mud...

There used to be a stairs going up connecting people from the mountains...
just a few meters away from our house.

Inspite of the things that happened...thank God for we are still safe and alive. And we would not leave our place, for people there are very good and kind.
Thanks to people who have helped us during that event.
Thanks to my sister Ma-an who have accomodated us when we have evacuated and served as lunch. And thanks to Lola Lu (Laurence mother) and family who have helped us and shared with us their home.

THANKS BRO!

EMBRACING CHANGE

May 24, 2009 we moved to our new home (my sister's new family home) at Sitio, Lamtang, Puguis, La Trinidad, Benguet. Its 9 km away from Baguio City proper. Fresh air, a quiet neighborhood, only the crickets who's noisy. While taking the track to the main road you could hear the stream flowing, the birds chirping and the crickets, you could hear the leaves being blown by the wind, the beautiful plantation of flowers and vegetables. And when you meet the neighbors they're all smiling. You could say that you're really home with nature.

No cables, no phone lines, but with free overflowing water from a spring...a very ordinary way of leaving, you could see children racing down the mountain, women carrying their babies at their back, ordinary houses build with hallowblocks and galvanized iron, unfinished houses but most of the residents have vans, FX, revos, and elfs.

And when you're there you really have to take note of the time especially when going to town, you have to be at least 1 hour early. I usually woke up 5:30 in the morning and get of the house at 6:30 everyday when I go to work. This time i have to embrace change in my day to day life, like waking 4:30 in the morning and going out of the house at 6:00 am to avoid traffic. Buy all the things needed before going home. To be home early, not later than 9 or else you would find trouble hiring a taxi cab to go home and spend two times or at times tripple the usual. I don't usually do the laundry because somebody comes and do if for us, but this time i have too. Going to bed early since there is no cable and our TV could only get 3 channels and my rooms outlets are not yet fixed but there is light, i couldn't watch DVDs nor listen to the radio. We've been there for a month now and I guess I've/we've accepted the change in our life...

Life in Lamtang has really brought us a lot of changes, became more closer to each other, more bonding time and more time with the children, children enjoying playing around/outside the house. Became thrifty especially with the use of electricity and lesser junkfoods and softdrinks (no nearby stores). Children in Lamtang are really lucky to still breath in a clean and fresher air.

LIFE IN LAMTANG IS BEAUTIFUL, ITS LIVING WITH NATURE!

NOT ALONE!

It's monday and I'm feeling bored today sitting infront of my computer so tried on searching for 'MARRISSA LORENTE' on the net and guest what I've found, we're NOT ALONE. LORENTE exist and is found in ITALY, ENGLAND and SPAIN. I've found one named Marisa Lorente...

LORENTE is a family name which traces its ancestral roots back to Italian and Spanish origins. It first appeared in ancient medieval records in Florence, Italy. The patronymic name of Lorente is derived from the given name Lorenzo, which is itself derived from the common latin word meaning laurel.

GRABBED 3 PICTURES

Temperature is dropping down again, it makes children sick of the changing weather now a days. And it makes me lazy too. As I sit down on my computer and opened my email, i came to open The Oribello Family Daily Digest and grab 3 pictures and thought of posting it here and sharing it ...

7.5 DEGREES

January 16, 2009...
It's freezing cold outside, it's said to be 7.5 degrees in temperature. Everyday temperature in Baguio is dropping down for this whole week now. It only started last monday with a 10.15 then its dropping by 1 degrees everyday. This is the coldest recorded this year, last year was 9.8 degrees and that was just last december...GLOBAL WARMING maybe?
